Turn Off Your Phone
go outside
look at the dullest scene
of grass and dirt and rocks
of cement and neon signs
smell the fumes of cars
and the death of flowers in the air
if you are by the sea
stick your nose into the salt water
rub salt in your eyes to clean
the memes from your memory
if you are by the mountains
climb up to the thinnest air
and choke yourself
it is better than reading the news
if you are with anyone
ask them if you can touch them
anywhere just to remember
what is real and which digital memories
you are still clutching on to
like a blind monk
if you are driving put on Open All Night
and tap your foot
(not the accelerator/brake one)
to the rockin’ rhythm
check out the lunar landscape
if you are a baker then bake cookies
if you are a chef then cook something garlicky
if you are a musician tickle those strings
key those keys blow that brass
saw away or squeeze the box
if you work with wood then cut it
sand it bend it hammer it shape it
if you knit then knit up a storm
to keep us all warm in the deathly glow
of the internet that is infecting us all
without even a name like pandemic
only the invisible virus dripping
through our veins like heroin but worse
like coffee but worse like a silence
weaving its dark magic web all throughout
until the robots finally take over
