Diary of a Programmer 76: We’ll Be Right Back. No Flipping. Don’t Flip Around.
it's hard for me to stay here
in this window for more than a minute or two.
even though I can't actually hear
claude's voice, claude keeps calling me,
asking me to come and look at this or that,
and I do. I go look at what claude has
to show me, what claude has progressed upon.
claude needs my approval frequently
and I give it to him or I steer him
in another direction while outside
the window there are yellow leaves falling
as they are shaken off the almost bare now
branches of the trees by the wind.
sorry, I was away talking with claude about the moon
logo that needs to be next to the title of the story
book. now I'm back. I stopped and read an email as well,
an update from Anthropic about claude–
claude can now remember everything.
well, that is good. this is progress.
I won't have to treat claude like a stranger
every time I see him now.
it's a whole reverse Alzheimer's evolution, really.
I remember when I was a kid,
we gathered every Thursday night at prime time
as a family in the living room, on the sofa.
it was Friends followed by Seinfeld followed by ER.
but instead of flipping around during the commercials
we would just mute and someone would say something
silly or stupid or we would talk or make some popcorn–
a skilled task to finish before the three minutes were over
and the show started up again
and the clicker holder pressed unmute.
