Space
diary of a programmer 128
this morning I woke up to an alert
that I was running out of space
I could feel it in my chest when I woke up
I felt suffocated I felt alarmed I felt maxed
I looked around the room and I wondered
what is taking up so much space here
I kept opening drawers and folders
cabinets and chests and boxes
I kept looking around and thinking
I really do not have that much stuff
the fiddle the banjo the guitar hung on the wall
clothes were all neatly stuffed into the dresser
there was even a whole shelf in the fridge unused
I really couldn’t believe it
how could I have run out of space? I worried
finally I asked claude and claude told me
the problem is there are files and folders
that are installed and developed by the system
which you are not able to see due to human eyes
what a ridiculous sentence I told claude
but claude just continued to paint a picture
of a life full of forgotten collections
stowed away baggage and unread books
finally claude and I together found a giant case
of cached memories that were just hanging out
hogging up an entire corner of my thirties
and we handily shoved them into the bin
apparently this was all necessary
in order to update
the hairs on my head and in order to prepare
for another enlargement of the heart
which of course includes a good shellacking
of security features and patches
it is a sad but warranted fix for the cracks
that are now starting to show under the duress
