Bored With Life? Call Andy.
too lazy to capitalize
the first letter of the first word of each sentence?
call someone else.
you want to be a poet you have to write.
you have to write and write and write.
you have to write when you are stoned.
you have to write meaningless drivel.
you just have to make more poems
and more stories and more dead raincoats
and put them in boxes and stuff the boxes
and shove them in the attic. you have to
really fill that fucker up. don’t go up there.
don’t look in those boxes. just write and write.
don’t read any of it. write. keep writing. a bit more.
even more. have some coffee. have some whiskey.
write on the plane. in the park. at the zoo.
in a restaurant. alone. together with a friend.
just pull out your notebook and write stuff down.
but don’t read any of it. not yet. wait until later.
that is the trick to being a good writer.
write. and then pack it up. write and pack it up
and forget about it. and then later when you return to look
at the bullshit you had to write before you write how you do now.
you should not recognise the words. in the attic.
and the stuff that you read when you return
to look at what you are writing now. you should not remember
having written it. you should have no sense
of who the person was who wrote this shit. maybe
it will trigger a smell memory. or a sense or a vision
of a past time with someone. or a place. with you.
with me. love? is it? is it horrible? does it ring any bells? of course.
it is you but it is not you. so then
find the essence in the pages. and twist it into a story.
polish it into something cloudy but with a shape
with the light shining through a little more.
because you forgot the ego of the time when you wrote it.
because now you can see past and through and around the dead stuff.
because now your pen has sprouted and branched and bloomed.
to where that juicy organic pulp is. down there rotting like a mushroom
under a pile of wet leaves. waiting to be found. and fried
with butter and garlic for breakfast. while
you are writing. with coffee stains on the pages.
