Sun Over Tacos in Copenhagen
I think to myself: is anyone ever alone
anymore? As my phone buzzes
and I am surround by couples,
groups, families, and I assume
the loners are hidden away, tucked
away, out of sight. This couple next to me
is on a date. The guy is talking, of course,
about traveling through Egypt alone. He says,
the most difficult thing was eating
at night. You just sit there
alone, watching people, feeling
uncomfortable, then leave ten minutes later
and go back to the hotel. All the while,
I sit, listening, alone, and consider going back
to the Air BnB, keenly aware
I’m the only one alone in the whole taco
joint, and I think, well, maybe
he should’ve brought a notebook
to write in, as Texas Sun comes
on over the loud speaker.
